Golden Spike Horse
Trial refund checks were mailed Monday, October 2, 2006. All
riders received $106 of their entry fee, stabling fees in full, and
USEA/USEF fees in full, less late fees, change fees, and office
fees, and any over or underpayment as appropriate.
As stated in the omnibus, refunds were given after expenses. Expenses
deducted from entry fees included airline fees, travel fees, official
fees, omnibus listing fees, etc. Ribbons, prizes, and the facility
deposit will all be used next year, so those charges were not counted
as expenses for this year. No costs associated with facility improvement
or maintenance were included as expenses either.

| EVA Update -
The virus has been diagnosed in some new locations, including at
least one outside of Salt Lake county. If you are traveling anywhere
with your horse, it is wise to call ahead to check the EVA status
of the facility. As of now, several stables are once again under
quarentine, which means horses don't come in or go out. Some facilities
without EVA cases are requesting that outside horses stay away,
to reduce the chance of exposure. We can hope the upcoming cold
front will slow or halt the progression of EVA, but in the mean
time, we all must do what we can to stop the spread. |

| EVA - by now, most
of you are aware that the Salt Lake area is experiencing an outbreak
of Equine Viral Arteritis. Although this disease isn't a major threat
to most riding horses, it is extremely serious to any breeding stock.
Up to 60% of pregnant mares that get the virus, will abort their
foals, and infected stallions can pass the virus. Until the outbreak
quiets down a bit, many shows are being cancelled or rescheduled.
Wasatch Pony Club has rescheduled their popular Pumpkin Event from
August 19th to October 21st. Please see the WREA Event Calendar
page for details. Also, be sure to check with any show or clinic
organizer before traveling during the next few months, and be cautious
about letting your horse visit with other horses or sharing feed
pans, bits, etc. |
News
From Rebecca Farms - WREA's Novice
Purple Eggplant team finished an impressive 3rd
in the Chronicle of the Horse Adult Team Challenge. Not even the
sweltering 100-degree temperatures could skew their impressive performance!
Kudos to the team members: Ellen Guthrie, Kim Henneman, Timmie Kent
and Julie Taylor! For those of you who didn't make it up there,
be sure to take the virtual
course walk on the Rebecca Farms web site; it is most impressive!
More good news on Rebecca came in on 9/21... Here it is! Americas
Favorite Cookie team
won 2nd in the Training
Division of Chronicle of the Horse Adult Team Challenge! On the

Erin and Macchiato also took the individual sixth place. Robin
Sundeen on The Dark Horse, owned by Mary Lou Hamill, took first
place in the Open Training Division, finishing on their dressage
